Multifunction Display (MFD)

A Multifunction Display (MFD) is a versatile screen, often found in aircraft, boats, and even vehicles, that can display a variety of information and control multiple systems, serving as a central hub for navigation, communication, and other functions.

Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) Component[edit | edit source]
MFDs are a standard part of EFIS, also known as "glass cockpit" systems, alongside Primary Flight Displays (PFDs).
Versatile Display[edit | edit source]
They can display navigational information like moving maps, weather data, traffic information, terrain awareness, and even engine status.
Backup Function[edit | edit source]
MFDs can serve as a backup for PFDs and Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) screens if those fail.
